After the government of Uganda withdrawing bribery charges against the former Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) executive director David Livingstone Ebiru; Parliament’s public accounts committee on commissions, statutory authorities and state enterprises committee (PAC-COSASE) chief Joel Ssenyonyi says what the state has done contradicts with the law.
Ssenyonyi reveals Ebiru himself admitted before the committee that he did bribe UNBS board chairman, Charles Musekura with Shs100 million to get him the ED job. He notes;
“You all saw him testifying how he bribed the chair with Shs100 million. We had all the evidence and he also admitted but now see what the State has done! It is shocking. There is no political Will to fight corruption. But at least we have done our job ‘kabakole byebagala’ (let them do their wish) time will come.”

In the letter released by the IGG office maintains that Ebiru is clean and the State is no longer interested in his charges. Ebiru will formally be discharged today on October 31, 2023 without him ever stepping foot in court; he was arrested on July 26, 2023.

“The charges had no proper investigations, so it is not surprising being withdrawn,” notes Silas Mugabi, Ebiru’s lawyer.
