The U.S. President Joe Biden has revealed of how is terminating Uganda and other three African countries from trade deal.
Biden yesterday in his speech he intends to sweep Uganda, Gabon, Niger, and the Central African Republic off the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) trade program that has been boosting millions for the growth of these countries.
According to Biden he says this has come due to the gross violation of human rights Uganda is intently doing. Biden says some countries like Gabon and Niger have failed to maintain peace and rule of law which can lead to AGOA deal termination.
“Despite intensive engagement between the United States and the Central African Republic, Gabon, Niger, and Uganda, these countries have failed to address United States concerns about their non-compliance with the AGOA eligibility criteria,” Biden said.
AGOA that was lunched 13 years ago according to Biden he say he is to cut its ties with Uganda next year by January 1, 2024. AGOA has been granting Uganda duty free exports to U.S.
